Paraiso noted that the influencers were previously given the opportunity to remove their content but did not comply. “We will now be endorsing them to the PNP-ACG for the appropriate filing of cases,” he said, adding that the agency would also request the removal of the gambling websites they promoted.
This initiative follows a warning issued in July, in which the CICC urged content creators to cease promoting illegal gambling or face legal consequences.
According to Paraiso, potential charges include violations of the Cybercrime
Prevention Act of 2012, Presidential Decree No. 1602—which imposes stricter penalties on illegal gambling—and Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code on fraud. He added that investigators are also examining a possible large-scale syndicated fraud or conspiracy involving multiple influencers.
Digital Pinoys national campaigner Ronald Gustilo announced that the group will soon deploy new monitoring software capable of more efficiently detecting illegal gambling websites. “This can easily detect illegal gambling sites,” he said.
The CICC’s latest action marks a renewed effort by Philippine authorities to curb online gambling promotions and strengthen oversight of digital influencers.
