Between July and December 2025, Brazil recorded an impressive 34.3 million sports betting app downloads, representing nearly one-third of the 115.4 million total downloads worldwide during that period. In the context of a reshaped global gambling landscape, Brazil's rapid ascent has outpaced traditional markets in Europe and North America.
This exponential growth is directly linked to Brazil’s inaugural year of comprehensive betting regulation. Since the Ministry of Finance’s framework took effect on January 1, 2025—mandating a R$30 million licensing fee and the use of the official “.bet.br” domain—the market has transitioned from a "grey area" to one of the most regulated growth sectors in the world. Currently, more than 80 operators have secured official licenses. The study highlights that six of the top ten most downloaded sports apps in Brazil fall under the "Sports Betting and Casino" genre, with Betano leading the charts, underscoring the central role these apps play in the local mobile ecosystem.
Crucially, Brazil exhibits market characteristics that diverge significantly from global trends. While the global sports app category is still led by news, live scores, and streaming giants like DAZN, ESPN, and Sofascore, betting apps have become the "primary gateway" for sports fans in Brazil. This structural difference indicates that betting is no longer just a peripheral activity in Brazil but is deeply integrated into the country’s sports consumption culture and social lifestyle.
Looking ahead, Brazil's regulatory model is becoming a global benchmark. This newfound transparency provides the government with substantial tax revenue and gives operators the confidence for long-term investment. With the widespread adoption of payment systems like Pix and increasing mobile internet penetration, Brazil is poised to maintain its status as a global traffic engine for the betting industry throughout 2026, driving the digital transformation of the entire Latin American market.
